VErtical Gallery commission 2024

The commissioned work 'Tidal Transparency', was exhibited at the Manchester School of Arts Degree Show in June 2024. It was inspired and influenced by a personal connection to the village and region where I grew up in Liguria, Italy. The meeting of the Mediterranean Sea and coastal villages influence my work and life in many aspects.

The movement of the sea can be seen in the organic shapes of the opaque materials, contrasted with the linear and disordered patterns of the houses and windows seen along the coast. 

My practice explores the metamorphic quality of color around us interacting with light, which is a key theme to my proposed piece as I wish to recreate the sense of nostalgia and tranquillity I feel in connection to this place. 

I choose to work with natural and organic materials as they work well with the cool tones in the color palette and emphasize the natural element needed when considering sustainability.
